Robin and Jana On The Road:MAUREEN MCNAUGHTON SEMINAR Our journey started with a five and a half hour drive to Wichita, Kansas. It was a veryeasy, lovely drive. (Robin drove!!) I just talked and looked at the scenery. Classes were held at the SDP office in Wichita. We had 25 students in attendance.Maureen was an excellent teacher. She used a video screen and every seat could see each stroke she made. Maureen taught four projects with different types of stroke work. Maureen started by showing everyone the use of her synthetic chamois and wet palette paper. I personally will use nothing else now. The chamois stay wet longer and in turn will keep Maureen’s wet palette paper wet longer. (The best part of using her palette paper, it doesn't need to soak for hours before use.) Maureen's palette paper is used right away. Maureen was very patient and never hesitated to repeat anything. Maureen had plenty of her brusheson hand for sale and furnished all the paint. Robin and I had a great time. SDP furnished lunch everyday. Tuesday evening was reserved for those that wanted to go to the St. Anthony’s Church. There they saw the restoration of the six lunettes and three murals that formed the decorative heart of the reconstruction of the historic St. Anthony’s Church by Karl-Heina Meschbach DACA. We loved Maureen and her painting technique. I would recommend if Maureen is ever close enough, you should definitely try and go take one of her classes. Maybe the Yellow rose could look at bringing her to the chapter someday. I promise it is well worth the cost of her classes. She's a great teacher. Robin & Jana On the Road Again Soon!!!

In September of 2005 members of the Society were given the opportunity to paint ornaments for the Library of Congress in Washington DC. This was not an official Society function, but organized by Deb Malewski. Artists that painted ornaments were invited to a reception in early December. The project was called "Creativity Across America", here were book-shaped ornaments from each state. The background colors were specified and the ornament was to tell a story about your state. Here is a picture of the ornament on the tree at the Library and a picture of those artists attending the reception. Click on tree picture for enlargment Faith Younse's ornament:

If anyone sent an ornament to the Library of Congress please send a picture to be posted here. Wildflowers of Texoma Chapter sponsored a seminar with Della Wetterman. Della has a unique style of Folk Art. The project was a santa in pink suit on a black metal tree. Many of the Yellow Rose members attended.
Bluebonnet Chapter sponsored a seminar with Carolyn Bacon. Carolyn paints on music sheets with acrylics and Folk Art Gel. This technique paints more like oils and was fun to learn. Carolyn is the immediate Past President of SDP. Many of the Yellow Rose Members attended the seminar.
The Society of Decorative Painters was asked by
Laura Bush to paint ornaments for the official White House Tree. The Theme
was "a Season of Merriment and Melody" and we were asked to paint various
musical instruments in bright colors with gold strokework or Rosemaling on
them. There were over 350 ornaments on the tree and at least one from every
state. The Artists that painted ornaments and the Board of Directors were
invited to a reception at the White House on Dec 1, 2004. The decorations and
food was spectacular. Each person that was invited was given the opportunity
to have a picture taken with Laura Bush, along with their invited guest.
Armida Guzman, a Ft. Worth Decorative Painters member painted an ornament and
took Betty Kenaston, also of Ft. Worth, as her guest. Nancy Genetti, an SDP
Board Member took Linda McDonald as her guest. It is almost indescribable the
feeling you get as you walk thru the halls and into the area where the
reception was held, it was such an honor to be there.

What a wonderful weekend! Gail Anderson continues to be one of my very favorite artists!! She is a low key, down to earth, gentle hearted woman who generously shares and encourages her students. There is no "pretense" about her at all! Susan
Each year the Chapter raffles a painted piece. These pieces are painted by members who volunteer their talent. 2004 Raffle Look at the wonderful quilt. It has been painted by members of our chapter. Each square has a different flower and Faith Younse quilted around each flower design and embellished them with crystals, beads, etc. The entire quilt was then assembled and quilted. You have to see it to believe it. Contact any member of Yellow Rose for your tickets.
2003 Raffle This year's raffle was "Four Seasons Table Runners" Here are the fall and winter runners completed. Lori Bean was the lucky winner!
Here are some of the pictures from past raffles:

The Chapter took part in the SDP's "Learn to Paint" Program. Many of the Yellow Rose Members volunteered their time to teach "people that had never held a paint brush" to paint. Here is a picture of a few of the students.
