Members paint for Ronald McDonald House

Several Yellow Rose Members that work at Southwest Airlines created centerpieces for a dinner planned for the Ronald McDonald House.  A call was put out to volunteers to paint cookies and make centerpieces. They spent several of their lunch hours on this project.

Need a Tip?

Just ask Faith Younse....she had a tip published in the Creative Painting book club.  Congratulations Faith.  In case you didn't see it her tip is to use an ice-cube tray instead of a large water container to rinse  brushes.  The individual wells give you plenty of clean water and avoids so many interruptions to change the water.

Susan Mynyk is published!

by Susan S. Mynyk
Paint a custom “Studio” sign to display on your home studio or craft room door.

Check out the latest Quick and Easy Painting (August 07) for Susan's first published design.  It is a whimsical Studio door sign.  Susan decorated a table at conference in Nashville and these signs were the favors.  Congratulations Susan!

Sharron White, with help from Bette Thompson, has been working on two large "canvases" for her church's Easter Pageant.  They are 12' x 15'.  See what they have created!

Congratulations go to Faith Younse....

Faith entered a Painting Contest sponsored by Peni Powell of Oregon.  The artists were given a line drawing and told to paint.  Faith won in the "Most Unique Application Category".

Congratulations to Linda!

Linda McDonald becomes a Liliedahl Certified Fine Art Instructor.

Yellow Rose member, Kay Crumpler, has this heartfelt story to share:

In November, 2004 Eli Lily, who invented and makes the chemo drug I am on , hosted a breakfast for me at the North Texas Regional Cancer Center.  This was to celebrate the fact that I had had 100 chemo treatments and was doing very well.  There were several executives there and it had been talked about that possibly they were going to invite Ray and I to Indianapolis to see the Company and that it would probably be in 2005.  The next thing I knew they had invited me to speak in Indianapolis at two different meetings.  The talks went well and it was a wonderful trip.  My chemo treatments will continue indefinitely and we pray for healing.  Yellow Rose members are praying right beside you.                     Click on rose to read about their trip to Indianapolis

Kay passed away in August 2006 after a long-fought battle with cancer.  She is deeply missed by the Yellow Rose Chapter.

Congratulations to Marge!

Marge Bode was given Teacher Recognition by Delta at http://www.welove2paint.com. If you go to this web site and click onto "Teacher Recognition" tab on the left side of the page & then scroll down the page, you will find a brief article spotlighting our own Marge Bode!

This is what they said:

September 2004

WeLove2Paint salutes Marge Bode! She has utilized Delta Ceramcoat paints leftover from a seminar for a mural that she and a group painted for the children's room of Hope's Door, a battered women's shelter. The children loved the results! The Delta paints that will be left over from an upcoming seminar that Marge has scheduled will be used to paint a mural in a room at a church that allows her chapter to use for meetings.

Congratulations Susan!

Susan Mynyk has been invited to teach a beginners class on TV, for a new show hosted by Susan Crenshaw.  It's called the "Creative Way" and it focuses on women who have overcome an adversity and found an outlet through some form of creative expression.  Susan will be taping a beginners painting class in a few weeks in Ft. Worth, after an interview for the story this week.

This is the project that Susan taught  for the taping of "The Creative Way".

She had done all the prep work, and the words.  The students will only needed to stroke on the butterfly.  What they don't know, and sshhhhh, please don't tell them, She has given the pieces one coat of matte varnish.  This way, in the event we had a tragedy, the paint could have been whisked away and painted again! <grin>

Check back to get more information and times when the program will air.

Again, congratulations Susan, what a terrific opportunity.

Members write articles for Loew Cornell Teacher's Spectrum:

Our own, former treasurer, Georgia Magarell, TDA, had a full page article published in the Loew Cornell Teachers Spectrum.  It was a light hearted piece on enticing beginning painters to achieve success.  Georgia had another article in the Teacher's Spectrum 2007 Issue I - Three Generations Deep and still painting.  Susan Mynyk has an article in the Teacher's Spectrum 2006 Issue 3 - entitled "What's Wrong with Me?"

One Yellow Rose Member had her opinion count in a magazine:

Linda McDonald painted beautiful basket of roses on a fireplace screen in exchange for the quilting on our Ways and Means project.   We got a beautifully quilted quilt and she got a wonderful hand-painted fireplace screen.

Member of Yellow Rose becomes a TDA

Eight years ago, just a few short months after she had quit smoking, Susan discovered decorative painting. She credits painting as God’s answer to her prayers for an activity that would keep her mind and hand occupied with something other than smoking. Having no natural ability, Susan struggled to understand how to master the most basic of skills. Due to limited teacher availabilities, Susan considers herself mostly self-taught.

After six years of painting for pleasure, Susan enthusiastically signed up when the Society of Decorative Painters offered an educational program to improve teaching skills. She spent the following 18 months studying and teaching. In June of 2002 Susan passed the written portion of the Teacher Development Program test. In February of this year, after completing 100 teaching hours and submitting a video portfolio, Susan was awarded the diploma "Teacher of Decorative Art". In addition, she has been accepted into the DecoArt Helping Artist program and will be offering "Decorative Painting for Everyone©" classes.

Susan’s favorite painting subject almost always includes fruit and she prefers stylized folk art designs. Look closely at her work and you will see her signature includes the scripture reference John 15:8 "This is to my Fathers glory that you bear much fruit".

Susan has served in various capacities on the Yellow Rose Board, including President. Currently she is Seminar Chairman. In addition, Susan has volunteered to be on the SDP education committee for 2003-2004.

CONGRATULATIONS, SUSAN!

Ricki VanRyn finished "Her great Wall of Ted".  She spent many hours painting the wall in the office in their home.  Isn't it wonderful!

Lori Bean has item published in "Tole Exchange" in June 2003 issue of Tole World!

Lori writes, it's taken me many years of painting to have the courage to adapt designs to different surfaces.  When I saw Roxanne Pulchalski's crackled tulip lamp in your April 2002 issue, I loved it!  I adapted the pattern to fit an old, round tin with a lid.  It turned out great.

I encourage other readers to attempt new projects and to push the boundaries of their abilities.  My results have always been worthwhile.

Vicki Schmidt has been hard at work!

When Vicki moved into her home, there was a built in hutch from the 70's in need of some updating.  There was some water damage on it, so Vick got to work and what a transformation!  Does this inspire anyone to re-do that old piece?  See her results:

Before                        After                  Front View              Close Up

If you look real close, it looks like Vicki even repainted her chairs to go with the hutch.

Lori Bean painted the "Della Wetterman" basket below from the Paintworks Magazine for her mother.
